The Project
"Phlegraean Fields: Mankind, Fear and New Sibyl" (2024) is a multimedia project that bridges art and science, focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence and its ethical, social, and cultural implications.
Developed by GlitchAV together with geologist and guitarist Vincenzo De Novellis, the work transforms seismic data from the Phlegraean Fields (2018–2023, processed with DInSAR) into artistic material. The performance blends:
- Algorithmic sound synthesis from geological data
- Traditional orchestral elements
- Video content created by both humans and AI
At its core lies the symbolic figure of the “new Sibyl”—an imaginary AI oracle inspired by the ancient Cumaean Sibyl—serving as a bridge between science, art, and society.
Presented at major international conferences (EGU, AGU, Bari) and outreach events, the project revives a Renaissance vision where art and science complement each other. It highlights both the creative potential and the risks of AI, calling for a critical and conscious approach.

Phlegraean Fields: Mankind, Fear and New Sibyl (2024)
This multimedia work explores the intersection of art and science, the impact of AI, and its ethical, social, and cultural implications. The Sibyl project investigates these dynamics through multimedia works, transforming scientific data into creative material. The artist does not merely represent the data but reinterprets it to stimulate new reflections and offers an alternative understanding of the studied scientific phenomena, creating a connection that goes beyond logic, reaching the emotional sphere.
